Zusammenfassung

Die Acetylcholinmangelhypothese der Alzheimer’schen Erkrankung steht derzeit im Zentrum der biochemischen Erklärungsansätze der senilen Demenz vom Alzheimertyp (SDAT). Nachfolgend sollen zunächst die anatomische Verteilung und Funktion cholinerger Neurone dargestellt werden, dann auf verschiedene Belege für die Acetylcholinmangelhypothese der SDAT eingegangen werden und schließlich im Zentrum der Arbeit die klinische Überprüfung der Acetylcholinmangelhypothese mit Hilfe anticholinerger Substanzen bei Patienten mit seniler Demenz vom Alzheimertyp erörtert werden.
