Zusammenfassung
Die einzelne Zelle (z. B. Nervenzelle, Immunzelle) stellt eine Funktionseinheit dar. Eine eukaryote Zelle trägt das gesamte Genom und kann unter gegebenen Umständen wesentliche Teile davon exprimieren. Sie ist in der Lage, die von der Umgebung kommenden Informationen mit internen Prozessen zu verarbeiten. So laufen z. B. Adaptationsprozesse bereits auf Einzelzellebene ab.
