Zusammenfassung
Sternflecken sind das direkte Analogon zu Sonnenflecken, also lokale Magnetfelder in der Photosphäre eines Sternes mit einer konvektiven Hülle. Derlei Aktivitäten in stellaren Photosphären, Chromosphären, Ubergangszonen und Koronae werden nicht durch klassischen Strahlungstransport verursacht und getriggert, sondern vielmehr durch Magnetfelder, mechanische Energien und Materieflüsse, die ihren Ursprung in den Tiefen der Konvektionszone haben und von einem internen Dynamo getrieben werden. Ein beobachtbarer Effekt aus der Palette stellarer, nicht-thermischer Aktivitätsphänomene sind Sternflecken in der Photosphäre und kommen — in Analogie zur Sonne —, entweder nur bei fast vollständig konvektiven Sternen vor (dMe-Sterne, T-Tauri-Objekte) oder bei Sternen mit einer konvektiven Hülle wie eben bei unserer Sonne und allen anderen F-, G- und K-Sterne.
