Zusammenfassung
Sehr wahrscheinlich rotieren alle Sterne, egal welchen Spektraltyps, manche aber so langsam, dafß wir es auch mit den genauesten Methoden nicht messen können and manche so schnell, daß sie durch die Fliehkräfte beinahe auseinanderbrechen. Das Vogt-Russell-Theorem besagt zwar, daß der Lebensweg eines Sternes nur von seiner Masse, seinem Alter and seiner chemischen Zusammensetzung abhängt, and durch diese drei fundamentalen Parameter eindeutig bestimmt ist. Doch die Aktivität der Sterne lehrt uns, wie so oft, eines besseren: im weitaus größten Lebensabschnitt eines Sternes ist dessen Phänomenologie viel mehr von der Kombination von Rotation and der Existent einer Konvektionszone mit dem dabei generierten Magnetfeld bestimmt. Bestätigt durch neueste helioseismologische Messungen, scheint die Rotation des Sonneninneren wahrscheinlich dock weniger wichtig für deren Aufbau zu sein, als noch vor kurzem angenommen. Aber, hier ist natürlich noch lange nicht das letzte Wort gesprochen. Im folgenden wollen wir den Parameter Rotation etwas genauer unter die Lupe nehmen.

Arne Slettebak (Hrsg.) hat mit dem Buch stellar rotation (IAU Symposium Nr. 4, Reidel, Dordrecht, 1970) wohl den Klassiker unter den Fachbüchern dieses Teilgebietes zusammengestellt. Ist heute aber natürlich zum Großteil veraltet.
David F. Gray’s zweite Auflage von The observation and analysis of stellar photospheres (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1992) erlaubt einen aktuellen Einblick in dieses Forschungsgebiet. Zum Studium sehr zu empfehlen.
