Our friend Douglas Miller, Edinburgh, who died all too soon, must have been a unique, highly-talented and ingenious master, in collecting grants. This was my impression when I had the opportunity to overview the list of about two dozen projects running in his department, each including money for equipment and manpower. I know from Graham Teasdale and John Pickard the considerable amount of written information that the National Health System and Medical Research Council require from a Professor in Neurosurgery when submitting grant applications.
