Abstract
The FT-IR method was used to investigate the properties of the microemulsion system formed by potassium-saponified HEHEHP. The subtraction spectra prove that all the polar groups of the surfactant molecule are highly hydrated. It is the strong interaction between the surfactant and water molecules that determines the structure and properties of the system. The water molecules in the microemulsion are divided into four types, namely highly bonded water, bound water, bulk-like water and isolated water, by decon-volution and curve-fitting.
