Semiconductor heteroj unctions are interfaces where two different semi conducting materials are in contact. This definition also includes transition surfaces where the composition of an alloy semiconductor changes abruptly, as e.g. a Ga0.6Al0.4As-Ga0.9Al0.1As interface. If the heterojunc- tion (sometimes also termed heterointerface) has the same type of majority carriers (n-n orp-p) on both sides of the interface, it is called “isotype”. If the majority carriers are electrons on one side and holes on the other side, the heteroj unction is called “anisotype” [87].
