Zusammenfassung

Jede Gesellschaft hat ihre eigenen Vorstellungen über Ursache und Verlauf von Krankheit. Diese Unterschiede müssen dem Arzt geläufig sein, um erfolgreich fremde Patienten behandeln zu können. Besonders die sogenannten „Culture-bound-Syndromes“ sind ohne diese Vorkenntnisse nicht erfaßbar. Die Ethnomedizin versucht, dieses Wissen zu vermitteln.
