Zusammenfassung

Der größte Teil unseres Wissens über therapeutischen Schlafentzug beruht aufStudien, in denen lediglich ein einzelner Schlafentzug pro Patient untersucht wurde. Im klinischen Alltag jedoch erscheinen vereinzelte Schlafentzüge wegen der Kurzlebigkeit des antidepressiven Effektes kaum sinnvoll; konsequenterweise wird diese Behandlung meist wiederholt, auf psychiatrischen Station en oft nach einem regelmäßigen Schema zwei-oder dreimal in der Woche. Es herrscht keineswegs Übereinstimmung darüber, ob ein solches Vorgehen klinisch sinnvoll ist und nach welchen Regeln die Schlafentzugsbehandlung im Rahmen eines Gesamtbehandlungsplans durchzuführen ist.
