Zusammenfassung

Wie bei allen antidepressiven Therapieformen spricht nur ein Teil der depressiven Patienten auf Schlafentzug positiv an. Die Metaanalyse von 61 Studien an insgesamt etwa 1.700 Patienten (Wu und Bunney 1990) ergab, daß 59% der Patienten auf eine Schlafentzugsnacht mit einer signifikanten Verbesserung ihrer depressiven Symptomatik reagierten. Der relevante Anteil an Non-Respondern wirft die Frage auf, wodurch Patienten, die auf einen Schlafentzug ansprechen, charakterisiert sind. Aus den Antworten auf diese Frage erhoffen wir einerseits in klinisch-praktischen Belangen Parameter zu erhalten, die für die Indikationsstellung eines Schlafentzugs bei einzelnen depressiven Patienten herangezogen werden können, andererseits lassen sich wichtige Beiträge zur Erforschung der Pathophysiologic der einzelnen Formen der Depression erwarten. Der vorliegende Beitrag soll eine Übersicht und Zusammenschau der bisher vorliegenden Befunde geben, die zur Fragestellung der Vorhersage des Therapieansprechens auf Schlafentzug vorliegen.
