Trace element contents of the Iceman’s bones
Trace element concentrations of excavated human bones can be used for the reconstruction of ancient diet, the palaeoenvironment or as an indicator for long term exposure to toxic elements (Grupe, 1991). The approach is limited by some factors as the influence of the burial environment, the inhomogeneous distribution of trace elements in bone, and the susceptibility of bone to diagenetic contamination.
