Secondary applications of bioanthropological studies on South American Andean mummies

Part of the book series: The Man in the Ice ((3262,volume 3))

Abstract

Most bioanthropological studies are initially performed in pursuit of the answer to a specific question. Integration of the findings into an archaeological database, however, often provides new and unanticipated applications to other questions, broadening the range of information that can be extracted by the study of an ancient culture. This publication demonstrates how the results of an otherwise unrelated group of studies, when focused secondarily on a specific question, made a significant contribution to the nature of the interactions between two ancient Andean populations.
