Abstract
Although all ethmoid cells are ultimately continuous with the basal lamella, the latter is used as a reference to divide anterior and posterior cells. The ethmoid complex extends to the face of the sphenoid and may pneumatize superior to the sphenoid, creating the Onodi cell. The cells are continuous with the lamina papyracea laterally. Drainage for the posterior ethmoid cells is into the superior meatus. Occasionally the optic nerve is seen in the most posterior lateral aspect of the posterior ethmoid complex.
