Zusammenfassung

Die Elektroenzephalographie wurde 1924 von Hans Berger in Jena entdeckt und eingehend erforscht. Schon in den Anfangsjahren wurde nach EEGKorrelaten psychischer Veränderungen gesucht und die Einflüsse psychotroper Substanzen wie Kokain auf das EEG beschrieben. Die anfängliche Hoffnung ein Instrument zur besseren Prognose und Therapie sowie zum tieferen Verständnis psychiatrischer Störungen gefunden zu haben, erfüllte sich jedoch nur zum Teil. Wie für andere biologische Parameter ist es auch für das EEG nicht gelungen, einfache Zusammenhänge zu bestimmten psychiatrischen Erkrankungen oder psychopathologischen Syndromen herzustellen. Einfache Zusammenhänge sind jedoch aufgrund der klinischen Vielgestaltigkeit und pathogenetischer Heterogenität psychiatrischer Erkrankungen auch nicht zu erwarten.
