Gerade in einer modernen interdisziplinären Beschäftigung mit dem Mammacarcinom kommt dem Chirurgen mehr denn je eine zentrale Rolle zu. Über die perfekte Beherrschung der operativen Technik hinaus ist der Chirurg häufig der primär patientenführende Arzt, der erste Ansprechpartner für die Patientin und der Koordinator der interdisziplinären Diagnose- und Behandlungsstrategie.
