Zusammenfassung

Verfahren zur bildhaften Darstellung des Gehirns sind Grundsteine zur Differentialdiagnostik der Demenzen. Sie veranschaulichen Struktur und Funktion des Gehirns mit einer früher nicht vorstellbaren räumlichen und zeitlichen Auflösung in einer Größenordnung von nur wenigen Millimetern, was die Kernspintomographie anbelangt. Der Größte Teil der Informationsverarbeitung im Gehirn vollzieht sich über Synapsen. Die funktionellen Methoden erfassen hauptsächlich ebenfalls synaptische Prozesse, oder solche, die direkt oder indirekt damit verbunden sind; dazu gehören vor allem Veränderungen von Durchblutung und Stoffwechsel. Bildgebende Verfahren können in drei Große Gruppen aufgeteilt wer den:

  1. a)

    die neurophysiologischen mit Elektroenzephalographie (EEG) und Magnetoenzephalographie (MEG),

  2. b)

    die nuklearmedizinischen mit Single Photon-Emission-Computer-Tomographie (SPECT) und Positronen-Emissions-Tomographie (PET) und

  3. c)

    die neuroradiologischen mit Computertomographie (CT), Kernspintomographie oder Magnetresonanztomographie (MRT), Magnetresonanzspektroskopie (MRS) und funktioneller Magnetresonanztomographie (fMRT).
