The Weak Decay of S Shell Hypernuclei and the I=1/2 Rule

This paper summarizes the available information on S-shell hypernuclei, particularly with respect to their weak decays. It is also pointed out that a measurement of the branching ratios in the non-mesonic weak decay of Λ 4 H is crucial in order to test the ΔI=1/2 rule in the strangeness changing non-leptonic weak decay process. We emphasize that collectively, the S-shell hypernculei provide a unique system which can be used to test few body (A=l−5) calculations and extract new physics information.
