Abstract

The use of cryosurgery in thoracic medicine is a relatively recent development compared to other medical specialties where the lesions are easily accessible. In fact, thoracic medicine is reliant on endoscopes with a very narrow bore in order to treat tracheal or bronchial lesions. The cryoprobes must be of a sufficiently narrow diameter in order to pass through the lumen of rigid or fibreoptic bronchoscopes.
