Abdominal Cryosurgery: Hepatic Cryosurgery

  • Chapter
Atlas of Cryosurgery

Abstract

Hepatic cryosurgery is at present successfully used in medical practice both as an independent treatment and as a component of other treatments in the field of oncology. Tumors are destroyed by shock-freezing. New scientific research on freezing techniques in the fields of biology and medicine, as well as numerous theoretical and experimental studies in vitro and in vivo, indicate which mechanisms are activated when low temperatures are applied to the tissue. They also describe the impairment and destruction of cells which occur under cryoinfluence.
