Thematic Information from Digital Images
Digital images, particularly those from remote sensing technology, have become an important source of spatial information. In modern Geographical Information Systems (GIS), digital remotely sensed images are widely recognised as one of the most practical means of spatial information updating, especially in real-time applications. In most of today’s applications, however, the remotely sensed data may only be used to their greatest potentials if they can be correctly interpreted, classified, and presented in the same way as other terrestrial spatial information, such as thematic maps.
