Abstract

For many years the first author was a nurse at the intensive care unit (ICU) at the Department of Neurosurgery in Graz. At the same time she completed a degree in education and trained in psychotherapy, focusing on logotherapy and existential analysis. With this background she changed much in the way patients are cared for in the ICU. Her training, knowledge and psychotherapeutic approach still influence the way we do things in the unit, which the coauthor directs.
