All forms of fasciectomy aim to reduce the extension deficit and loss of finger abduction in both the radial and the ulnar type of Dupuytren’s disease. Dysesthesias can be improved by excision of the connective tissue tumor (BERGER et al., 1990). The operative procedure therefore aims to remove the macroscopically altered Dupuytren tissue, to correct the contracture of the proximal and distal interphalangeal joints, and to preserve the neurovascular bundles and the soft tissue coverage (HURST, 1996). The risk of progression or relapse needs to be addressed as well.
