Photodynamic Therapy in Cutaneous Diseases

In general, most published reports on the efficacy of ALA in PDT are case reports or summaries of individual experiences without using a standardized treatment schedule. Most of these studies comprised different treatment parameters (concerning choice of vehicle, concentration and application times of ALA, use of light sources and varying irradiation energies). All these experimental or pilot studies will be summarized in the Phase I-section. There is only a small number of placebo- or alternative-therapy-controlled ALA-PDT studies. They will be mentioned in the Phase II- and Phase III-section, respectively.
