Zusammenfassung
Sind die Häute beschnitten und gesäubert, das Unterhautbindegewebe und die lösliche Hautsubstanz entfernt und die Häute wieder auf ihren normalen Wassergehalt zurückgebracht, so sind sie für die folgenden Operationen, die der Entfernung des Epidermissystems dienen, bereit. Man rufe sich die im 2. Kapitel behandelte Tatsache ins Gedächtnis zurück, daß sich das Epidermissystem aus der eigentlichen Epidermis, den Haaren, Schweiß- und Fettdrüsen zusammensetzt und sich hinsichtlich Ursprung, Struktur, Wachstumsart und chemischer Zusammensetzung von der darunterliegenden eigentlichen Haut unterscheidet. Die verschiedenen Teile des Epidermissystems unterscheiden sich untereinander sehr deutlich in ihrer Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen chemische Reagenzien. Für den Gerber ist es ein besonders glücklicher Umstand, daß der auf der Narbenoberfläche aufliegende Teil der Malpighischen Schicht am leichtesten angegriffen wird. Werden die Epithelzellen dieses Teils der Epidermis zerstört, so wird dadurch der übrige Teil der Epidermis und das Haar vollständig von der eigentlichen Haut losgelöst und kann leicht mechanisch entfernt werden.
