Zusammenfassung
Ein Volumenintegral kann durch Ausführung der Integration nach einer der Koordinaten in ein Oberflächenintegral übergeführt werden; durch geeignete Wahl der zu integrierenden Funktionen gelangt man zum Gaussschen Satz und den Greenschen Formeln, die generelle Beziehungen zwischen einem Volumen- und einem Oberflächenintegral, das heißt den Randbedingungen herstellen. Bringt man sodann den Greenschen Satz auf die zu ermittelnde Lösung der Wellengleichung und eine Hilfsfunktion, die die Huyghensschen Elementarwellen darstellt, zur Anwendung, so ergibt sich die bekannte Kirchhoffsche Integralformel. Die Kirchhoffsche Formel stellt allerdings nur die Lösung im Integrationsraum dar; befindet sich der Aufpunkt außerhalb, so ist das Integral Null. Diese Unstetigkeit in der Darstellung der Lösung ist der eigentliche Grund, der es ermöglicht, die Randbedingungen einzuführen; beim Überschreiten der Integrationsgrenze springt das Potential und dessen Normalableitung von Null auf den vorgegebenen Wert, so daß die Randbedingungen in Form einer Quellen- und Doppelquellenbelegung in Erscheinung treten.
