Zusammenfassung
Nur über wenige Pflanzenstoffe ist so viel gearbeitet worden wie über die 1-Ascorbinsäure. Die Fülle der vorliegenden Veröffentlichungen macht eine monographische Erfassung der Literatur unmöglich. Im Rahmen eines Handbuchs der Protoplasmaforschung erübrigt sich aber auch die Erwähnung der meisten Arbeiten; das Hauptgewicht hat vielmehr auf der Darstellung der Methoden und Ergebnisse der cytochemischen Untersuchungen zu liegen. Andererseits darf aber auch nicht übersehen werden, daß wir unsere heutigen Kenntnisse über das Vitamin C in erster Linie biochemischen, nicht cytochemischen Studien verdanken. Zudem lenken die modernen Untersuchungen über die Biosynthese und die physiologische Bedeutung der AS unsere Aufmerksamkeit mehr und mehr auf mikrochemische Methoden. Daher sollen auch die für den Pflanzenphysiologen in Betracht kommenden biochemischen Bestimmungsverfahren ebenso Berücksichtigung finden wie die inzwischen erarbeiteten Erkenntnisse über die Biosynthese der AS sowie über deren physiologische Bedeutung.
