Abstract
It has long since been known that in many plant cells such as Elodea or Vallisneria, protoplasmic streaming is initiated by external influences (Frank 1872, Keller 1890, Hauptfleisch 1892, Kretzschmar 1904, etc.). This “induced” or “secondary” streaming is distinguished from “spontaneous” or “primary” streaming as it occurs in Chara or Nitella cells, many root hair cells etc.
