Concluding Remarks

Part of the Protoplasmatologia Cell Biology Monographs book series (PROTOPLASMATOL., volume 8 / 3a)

In the previous chapters, we have attempted to survey our knowledge on protoplasmic streaming up to the present. The results of observations by a great number of workers with different materials, methods and aims do not necessarily agree nor are their interpretations always in accord. As to the physiological meaning and function of protoplasmic streaming there are also still many obscure points. Nevertheless, the attempt to elucidate the mechanism and nature of this phenomenon has a great significance in helping us to understand the intrinsic character of the living matter itself.
