Abstract
Distinctive low-latitude (“Tethyan”) and high-latitude (boreal-austral) nannofossil assemblages can be recognized in Early Cretaceous, Mid-Cretaceous and Late Cretaceous times. Early and Mid-Cretaceous Tethyan assemblages are situated within a broad equatorial belt about 40° N to S. During the Late Cretaceous nannofossil bioprovincialism increases resulting in the existence of typical Tethyan/tropical, subtropical and high-latitude nannofossil species.
