The problems concerning “Macromolecules in Cell Structure” (Frey-Wyssling 1957) have evolved in the past 15 years to questions on the organization of the “Macromolecules in Organelles”. At the same time the highly dynamic nature of the organelles during growth and differentiation of the cell became evident. As a consequence ultrastructure research can no longer concentrate on mere morphology but must consider structural changes during ontogeny and functional activity.
