Abstract

Since galactose accumulation against a concentration gradient in kidney cortex slices was first shown by S. M. Krane and R. K. Crane (J. Biol. Chem. 234, 211, 1959) and its dependence on external Na was demonstrated (by A. Kleinzeller and A. Kotyk (Biochim. Biophys. Acta 54, 367, 1961) the observation have been correlated with the reabsorptive capacity of kidney tubular cells for glucose.
