The Field Theory of the Intermediate Boson in Weak Interactions

Abstract

This talk shall give a short review of recent trends in the description of weak interactions by a theory which goes beyond the purely phenomenological approach. The great success of the latter in the theoretical investigation of processes at energies which occur in β-decay, μ-decay, μ-capture, and to some extent in strange particle decays, necessarily leads to field theoretical models which contain relatively heavy particles (compared to the energies of the above processes) which mediate the interactions between the four fermions.
