Polyene Azines

C6H5 · (CH=CH)n · CH=N—N=CH(CH=CH)n · C6H5
  • L. Ƶechmeister

It was interesting to extend the study of diarylpolyenes to this symmetrical series that is characterized by a centrally located =N—N= group. Although the lowest homolog, benzalazine (n = o) has given negative results, cinnamalazine (n = I) and phenylpentadienalazine (n = 2) could be converted by Dale and the writer (84) into two oily stereoisomers each, viz. a cis C=C and a cis N=C form. One of the cis cinnamalazines is sterically hindered.
