Zusammenfassung

Der Einladung des Herausgebers des Handbuches „Protop1asmata1ogia“, Prof. Dr. F. Weber, Graz, für dieses Werk einen Artikel: Vitamine und Antivitamine abzufassen, habe ich gerne Folge geleistet. Der Stoff ist in 17 Kapitel gegliedert 1 und jedes Kapitel wieder in mehrere Abschnitte unterteilt. Ich habe bewußt, allerdings bei knappster Fassung, bei der Darstellung des behandelten Stoffes zu Beginn den organischen Chemiker sprechen lassen, um die Chemie der einzelnen Vitamine, Zusammenhänge zwischen chemischer Struktur und physiologischer Wirkung sowie allenfalls Gesetzmäßigkeiten von Struktureigentümlichkeiten der Antivitamine aufzudecken. So zu beginnen, ist sowohl aus didaktischen wie historischen Gründen angezeigt. An die Betrachtung des chemischen Tatsachenmaterials schließt sich jene des physiologischen Chemikers und schließlich Erörterungen ärztlicher Fragestellungen, wie Vitaminmangelkrankheiten und deren Therapie mit Vitaminen, wobei diese Vitaminmangelkrankheiten einerseits als Folge von Ernährungsschäden und anderseits als Ergebnis der Wechselwirkung von Antivitaminen mit den vitaminhaltigen Fermenten anzusehen sind. Ich hoffe, daß der vorliegende Bericht in dieser Form auch für einen heterogenen Leserkreis interessant sein dürfte, nämlich zu erfahren, welche Konsequenzen sich für den Organismus bei der Verabreichung von abgewandelten Vitaminmolekülen ergeben und anderseits die
