Nadeln oder Prismen mit dem Schmelzpunkt 164°. Löslich in 2,18 Teilen Wasser von 0°. Die wäßrigen Lösungen zeigen Mutarotation; [α] der α-Form=−54°, der ß-Form=−174°; Gleichgewichtswert −105°. Sie liefert ein Phenylosazon vom Schmelzpunkt 166° (identisch mit Ribosazon), ein p-Bromphenylhydrazon vom Schmelzpunkt 168° und ein zur quantitativen Bestimmung geeignetes Diphenylhydration vom Schmelzpunkt 218°.
