Protective Measures in Connection with Electromagnetic Separations of Radioactive Isotopes at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory
In its inception, the electromagnetic plutonium separation facility was constructed to provide small, research quantities of the isotopes. Feed was limited and the content of isotopes other than Pu239 was quite low. Thus health problems were those associated with elemental plutonium, a bone seeking, alpha emitter with 2.4 • 104 year half-life.
