Zusammenfassung

Die Chirurgie der Schmerzbekäm pfung ist eine symptomatische Therapie, welche versucht, überall dort mit neurochirurgischen Methoden unerträgliche Schmerzzustände zu beheben, wo die medizinischen, physikalischen und allgemein chirurgischen Maßnahmen versagen, die Schmerzursache zu beheben. Ist die Schmerzursache bekannt, wie beispielsweise bei Malignomen, bei narbigen Veränderungen, bei postinfektiösen Prozessen, wie der post-herpetiformen Neuralgie und der Tabes dorsalis, oder ist die Schmerzursache nicht bekannt, wie bei den idiopathischen Neuralgien, bei der Kausalgie oder beim Phantomschmerz, in beiden Fällen versagen leider nicht allzu selten die verschiedensten Therapien derart, daß die Schmerzzustände für den Kranken unerträglich werden und daß jetzt neurochirurgische Maßnahmen ergriffen werden müssen.
