Abstract
Monitoring of brainstem neurophysiological functions by the recording of objective parameters may be of considerable help during neurosurgical operations within the posterior fossa. Postoperative neurological deficits may be secondary to mechanical traction or to compression of nervous tissue; such damage may be avoided if functional deterioration is recognized and promptly corrected before irreversible structural alterations occur.
