Solutions to Difference Equations

Abstract

The primary goal of the course is the closed analysis of regular discrete models. An irregular discrete model can be used to generate simultaneous equations for one of the standard numerical procedures and this is usually done; however, the field concept can be very useful here especially in the case of models with several dependent variables. For those difference models that are too irregular to be tractable by closed form techniques, a numerical walk-thru procedure is often a much more efficient alternative to the simultaneous equations or matrix approach. As an example of an irregular difference model, consider the general three moment equation; i.e.
