Abstract

In this paper the problem of flaw characterization by ultrasonic spectroscopy method is addressed. Recent analytical works on scattering of elastic waves by obstacles embedded in solid body is summarized. Both two dimensional (crack like) defects and three dimensional (voids of inclusions) are considered. Experimental ultrasonic scattering date from artificial defects in metals are compared favorably to theoretical predictions.
