Abstract
The propagation of ultrasound in a one-dimensional configuration is discussed. Basic concepts are introduced and relevant governing equations are derived. Reflection and transmission at an interface are discussed. Harmonic waves and Fourier superposition are considered. Energy considerations are presented. The exposition of the theory is supplemented by a number of exercises.
