Part of the Acta Neurochirurgica book series (NEUROCHIRURGICA, volume 28)

Case histories of 160 patients, who were in coma for more than 5 days following admission to the Intensive Care Unit of the Institute of Neurosurgery of Budapest, are analysed in this paper. This group represents 33 per cent of the whole series of 479 severe cranio-cerebral traumatic cases treated in a five years period. Patients who died within 36 hours are not included in this series.
