Ever since Philips and associates [1] first reported in 1967 on an intraocular pressure sinking effect of the β-receptor blocking agent propranolol, more and more products of this group have been investigated as to their suitability for the treatment of glaucoma, whereby it became evident that, although many of these β-receptor blocking agents have an intraocular pressure sinking effect, they do in part differ considerably with regard to their action and side effects (Table 1).
