Abstract
This tumor, despite having a wide spectrum of different microscopic patterns, is a clinically and morphologically well-defined entity, whose name is suggested by the fact that sarcoma cells are reminiscent of the cells of normal synovium (see pag. 10). The better differentiated cells of synovial sarcoma, however, present immunohistochemical and ultrastructural features typical of epithelial rather than of synovial elements, so that recently some Authors proposed the term of soft tissue carcinoma, or carcinosarcoma.
