Carcinoma and Sarcoma in Chronic Osteomyelitis

  • Mario Campanacci

A chronic osteomyelitis with draining sinuses may be complicated by a squamous-cell carcinoma, exceptionally by a sarcoma. Such malignant tumors occur rarely (in less than 1% of all chronic osteomyelites) and after many years duration of the osteomyelitis and draining sinuses, usually more than 20 years.
