Ewing’s Sarcoma, Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumor (PNET)

  • Mario Campanacci

These are highly malignant poorly differentiated neoplasms composed of small round cells. Some of these tumors present cytologic neurogenetic features (PNET): otherwise, they do not significantly differ from Ewing’s sarcoma, and therefore the two are presently considered as a unique tumor entity. The same can be said for the small round cell tumor occurring in the thoracic wall of children (ribs or soft tissues) (sc. Askin’s tumor).
