Zusammenfassung

Nach einer großangelegten Untersuchung in den USA in 5 Großstädten (aus 5 Bundesstaaten) an über 18000 Personen in den 80er Jahren (ECA-Studie [1]) leiden nach DSM-III-Diagnostik 14,6% der Bevölkerung im Laufe ihres Lebens und 8,9% innerhalb der letzten 6 Monate an Angststörungen. Von den Befragten litten im letzten halben Jahr 4,2% der Männer und 9,1% der Frauen unter einer Agoraphobie oder Panikstörung. Lebenszeitlich entwickeln 5,2% eine Agoraphobie, 1,6% eine Panikstörung, 8,5% eine generalisierte Angststörung, 10,0% eine spezifische Phobie, 2,8% eine soziale Phobie und 2,5% eine Zwangsstörung.
