Serological Characters Located on Glycophorin C and Glycophorin D

The high-incidence antigens of the Gerbich group were first described by Rosenfield et al. [42] in 1960. Later a complex system comprising several non-allelic antigens was identified, of which to date four specificities have been defined — Ge1, Ge2, Ge3 [8,33], and Ge4 [35]. Only recently has it been recognised that the rare antigens Ls a (Lewis II) [10], Wb [44], Dh a [28], and An a [24] are also part of the Gerbich system.
