Recent Studies on Fulminate Complexes

The visible and ultraviolet spectra of various fulminate complexes have been determined in order to estimate the ligand field strength of the fulminate ion CNO-. The absorption bands of the diamagnetic (1) octahedral fulminato complexes [Fe(CNO)6]4-, [Fe(CN)5 CNO]4-, [Co(CNO)6]3- have been assigned; from the wavenumbers of the two ligand field bands (1A1g → 1T1g and 1A1g → 1T2g transitions the d -d splitting parameter Δ and the RACAH parameter B have been calculated using a relation given by JØRGENSEN (2).
