Thermochemistry of some Transition-Metal Tetrahalocomplexes

Until recently only few direct measurements of the strength of the coordinate bond habe been made. In this note are illustrated the results of calorimetric measurements from which may be derived the relative bondenergies of the metal-chlorine and metal-bromine bonds in the tetrahedral complexes [MX4]2-; M= Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn; X = Cl, Br. The compounds studied are: Rb2 CoCl4, Cs2CoCl4, Rb2ZnX4, Cs2ZnX4, [Et4N]2[MX4], [Me4N]2[MCl4].
